A black and white photo of a couple posing in front of a wooden wall. The man is wearing a cowboy hat and a short-sleeved shirt, and the woman is wearing a sleeveless dress. They are standing close together, smiling, with the woman's head resting on the man's shoulder.

About Johnny Coxe
Western Stories. Captured with Heart.

I’m Johnny Coxe — photographer, storyteller, and North Carolina native with a love for the untamed. My work lives at the crossroads of tradition and atmosphere — from bucking chutes and ranch gates to mist-covered ridgelines and high desert highways. Whether it’s a split-second of rodeo grit or a cinematic take on life out West, I aim to capture the kind of images that feel lived-in, honest, and a little bit legendary.

What Drives the Work

I picked up a camera to preserve fleeting moments, but I stuck with it because I saw stories everywhere — in weathered hands, slow sunsets, boot scuffs, and long shadows. My passion lies in crafting visual narratives that speak to something deeper: heritage, solitude, pride, grit. It’s not always loud. It’s not always clean. But it’s real.

North Carolina Roots, Western Soul

Home is North Carolina — a place full of quiet hills, red clay roads, and folks who shake your hand like they mean it. That background gives me a different lens on the Western world. I’m not just chasing cowboy clichés — I’m chasing feeling. Place. Meaning. I shoot the West how I experience it: as a way of life, not a costume.

Cinematic by Nature

My work leans cinematic — not in flashy edits, but in the way light hits dust, in the stillness between moments. The kind of frame that could just as easily hang in a gallery as it could flicker by in a film. Whether I’m documenting the rodeo circuit or wandering quiet towns with a camera slung at my side, I’m always looking for those visual echoes of the American West.

Let’s Work Together

Whether you're looking for fine art prints, planning a campaign, curating a gallery, or just curious about the world I see through my lens — welcome. I’d love to hear from you. Let’s collaborate, trade ideas, or create something timeless.

Saddle up — we’ve got stories to tell.
